To mark South Oxfordshire Choir’s 30th anniversary year, the Wallingford-based South Oxfordshire Choir will be performing Brahms Requiem on Saturday 16 August 2025 at 8pm in Oxford’s Christ Church Cathedral.
It is a very special year to be performing in this beautiful Cathedral: 2025 marks the 500th anniversary year of the founding in 1525 of Cardinal College (by Thomas Wolsey – the Lord Chancellor of England and Cardinal Archbishop of York), which some years later was re-established as ‘Christ Church’ by King Henry VIII.
South Oxfordshire Choir will be performing the English version of Brahms Requiem, accompanied by a piano duet and conducted by the Choir’s Director of Music, Crawford Wiley, a lay clerk in Christ Church Cathedral. Tickets will be available on the door. For further information visit www.southoxonchoir.org .
South Oxfordshire Choir meets to rehearse every Monday from 8 to 9.30 pm in St Mary-le-More Church, Wallingford. Their concerts are varied, with input from members to cover a wide range of music, from major choral works to themed song selections, madrigals and part songs. But they always choose pieces that can be learned and loved, albeit with a bit of effort. Since 1995 when they were founded, they have sung more than 50 major choral works, from Bach to Vivaldi. They have also tackled lighter productions from Lloyd Webber to Rodgers & Hammerstein.
