Riverside

Wallingford is well known for being on the banks of the River Thames, taking its name from the crossing it provided to animals and people.

The stretch of the Thames at Wallingford is one of the more beautiful locations along the River Thames. It is possible to explore the River Thames by boat in the summer months by taking an organised boat trip to Reading or Abingdon from the Riverside Park, and in nearby Benson you can hire rowing boats, canoes and motorboats.

In July you can see Royal Swan Upping pass through Wallingford and they sometimes stop off if there are swans in the area. Royal Swan Upping is an annual ceremonial voyage along the River Thames in which a census of the swan population is taken. Royal Swan Uppers wear the scarlet uniform of Her Majesty The Queen and travel in traditional skiffs for the annual ceremony. Visit the Royal Swan Upping Website for more information or visit our Swan Upping page for more information and pictures of past Royal Swan Upping flotilla pass through Wallingford.

During the summer months you can hire an electric boat from just in front of the Boat House, the popular riverside pub. From here is a pleasant cruise downstream to Goring and Streatley or upstream towards Benson and Shillingford.

For more information and to book a boat visit the Pure Boating website or telephone 07436 812508
